Our Community

The Wootton Community Network (WCN) is a non-profit volunteer-run organisation. As the Wootton Community Reserve Trust Manager, it manages the Wootton Community Centre and the associated crown lands. The crown lands reserve consists of the School Hall and Toilet Block, The Brush Turkey Cafe, the former school master’s house, the tennis courts, and tennis shed and surrounding lands.

History

Established in March 1999, after a series of public meetings, the Wootton Community Network was formed to encourage community spirit, sustainable development, and local employment.

Aims

to see the local area prosper once more, with improvements to existing services and the
creation of employment opportunities in an environment of community, not isolation.
to enhance the lives of people living within the local community.
to serve as an example to other small isolated communities.
to develop a sense of pride within the community.

How I came to Wootton

Caro and Mike Badcock

Caro and Mike Badcock

We weren’t going to tell our story just yet but since we have been here 10 years this June  the timing is probably appropriate. Not locals yet, but hopefully on the way.

Daphne’s story

Daphne’s story

You never know how people end up where they are. I have heard so many interesting stories locally that explain the eclectic mix that is the Wootton community.

Geoff Freeman and Julie Williams

This is the first in what we hope will be a regular item where we interview local residents and find out what brought them to Wootton,

Monique, Grant and Jhet Finlay

One foggy morning as the sun cracked the sky like a giant sunny side up egg, we turned off the Lakes Way onto a dusty side road.

This is an example page. It’s different from a blog post because it will stay in one place and will show up in your site navigation (in most themes). Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this:

Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my website. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.)

…or something like this:

The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickeys to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community.

As a new WordPress user, you should go to your dashboard to delete this page and create new pages for your content. Have fun!
